3 Ways to Avoid Burning out as an Entrepreneur

Let’s face it, this year has been pretty rough for everyone worldwide. And on top of that, we’re coming close to what’s considered to be one of the most stressful times of the year (although I’m not sure what will happen this year).

Whether you just started a business thanks to COVID or you’ve been running a business for as long as I have, it’s so easy this time of year to finish the year on the right foot and makes it hard to know when to stop.

If you’re not really sure if you need to stop, ask yourself these questions:

1. Are you having trouble staying focused and you’re easily distracted?

2. Has your work become more sloppy than usual?

3. Do you feel physically or mentally exhausted?

If you answered ‘YES’ to any of these, then you need to SLOW. DOWN.

Your business cannot run if you’re burnt out. Taking breaks is so important to be able to continue building a successful business instead of crashing and starting from scratch every single time.

Need some ideas on how you can take breaks without putting your hands up completely? Here are three ways to do just that:

  1. Take a social media break: I don’t even have Instagram on my phone anymore and only go on my iPad when I’m showing up or making an important announcement

  2. Review & reestablish boundaries: If you’ve felt your boundaries have been overstretched, then it may be a good idea to take some time to reflect and make that clear with yourself and your clients

  3. Say ‘No’ and mean it: By saying ‘thanks but no thanks’ doesn’t make you weak, rather it’s a great way to save your energy and take a step back when you feel you’re on your way to burning out.
