I’m always asked how I grew my social media accounts and how I made them so aesthetically pleasing. I wish there was an easy answer to that, but the truth is, there’s not. It was years of hard work, research, courses and a lot of trial and error. There’s no “secret recipe”.
The number one piece of advice I can give you if you’re working on your social media is to stay GENUINE. Be you. Don’t try to be someone else. The social media world is already so fake…don’t buy into that. Be unapologetically you. You will create a loyal following who follows you for YOU. And posting won’t feel like “work”. It will feel like you hanging out with your virtual “friends”, while reaching whatever that ultimate goal is.
Number two would be: stop looking at your numbers. Whether you have 100 followers or 100,000, does it really matter? What are your goals with those numbers anyways? Think more about your engagement. You can read more about engagement here. It’s basically what it sounds like. Are people interacting with your posts? Commenting? Sharing? Tweeting? I understand if you are an influencer, you’ll need those numbers to justify your costs. But, think about what those numbers mean to you. If you just want more followers for the sake of followers then you need to check yourself. If you’re on social media for popularity purposes than I can’t help you with that.
Lastly, google your butt off. Google everything and anything related to social media that you want to learn about. I’ve done my fair share of googling and I’m listing my faves below. This list is going to be added to CONSTANTLY so come check back from time to time if you need some more inspiration.

She’s also known as the #instagramexpert. Her blog is full of useful tips for small businesses and bloggers. You’ll find a variety of resources, specifically when it comes to instagram. I would recommend subscribing to her email list because her content is very helpful if you’re starting out in the social media world.
This is a useful app, but even if you’re not using it, their blog is AMAZING. It’s always the most up to date information about instagram and how to use it to your advantage. I find myself visiting certain blog posts over and over again for inspiration. Check it out, bookmark it, and share it with your small business friends!
Her blog is useful for someone who’s a bit more seasoned in the social media world, however, this article talks about how to take great photos for your social media feed. And that’s helpful for everyone. She also has a tutorial on how to make an image for Pinterest.
She teaches entrepreneurs how to make their passion profitable through online courses. What’s amazing is Melyssa offers a TON of freebies on her site and Pinterest, so even if you can’t afford a course, you can get loads of information for free. I love this line that she says on her website, “Whether you just need to add something new to your life, or you straight up can’t stand waking up on any morning that doesn’t begin with the letter ‘S’ — you’re in the right place.” It pretty much summarizes what she does – helps people who hate their day jobs to follow their passion instead.
I love this woman! She’s a photographer, educator, and podcaster (Goal Digger). Her bio on her website says she is a “small town Wisconsin girl obsessed with marketing who turned a $300 Craiglist camera into a seven-figure empire”. WOW. If you’re intrigued, head on over to her website. I have take one of Jenna’s courses and although I’m only about a third through it, I can honestly say she’s the real deal. She basically tells you EVERYTHING from start to finish, that she used to create her success.
